Academic Assessment

Academic Assessment

Report cards are issued quarterly to all students. Students in grades 1-12 receive letter grades which then are used to calculate the student's grade point average. Grade weight is determined by the amount of instructional time and difficulty of the class. A student's GPA is a helpful tool in evaluating overall academic performance.

At Westcoast School, assessment includes giving the California Achievement and Otis-Lennon Abilities test each year to students in grades 1 through 12. Kindergarten students also receive the SESAT test. These test results assist us in evaluating the success of our curriculum and teaching staff. It also becomes an aid for determining the strengths and weaknesses of our students so that we can meet their unique needs, be it in the classroom or elsewhere.
